National Lightning Safety Institute (http://www.lightningsafety.com) is an independent, non-profit consulting, education and research organization advocating a pro-active risk management approach to lightning hazard mitigation. Their web site provides information about lightning protection systems for buildings. It also contains information to support the formulation and implementation of a mitigation plan. The National Severe Storms Laboratory (http://www.nssl.noaa.gov/researchitems/lightning.shtml) is part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. It provides access to a wide body of research on lightning and lightning safety. Included are guidelines for lightning safety created for the NCAA (http://www.nssl.noaa.gov/mag/ncaa.shtml). The Lightning Injury Research Program (http://tigger.uic.edu/labs/lightninginjury/) at the University of Illinois-Chicago provides a variety of information about the effects of lightning on human health.
