1862 - The Second Year
The year 1862 began with unusually wet winter months. By the end of
January and its 22 days of warm temperature and rain or snow, roads
near Pine Grove, Kentucky were in terrible condition. February added
to the misery with additional heavy rains that caused flooding that
swept away fences - a common problem with rail fences. The continued
warm temperature allowed the muddy roads to persist. March followed
with nineteen more days of rain. April was about the same.
