Glen Conner
State Climatologist Emeritus for Kentucky
Record rainfall for a single day occurs most often as the result of thunderstorms. June 1960 observed one such excessive rainfall. After four months of below normal precipitation, rain fell in all but two days across the entire Commonwealth for the 11 June through 30 June period. The highest amount was recorded in Dunmor in southern Muhlenberg County . Their 10.40 inches surpassed the previous record by 2.34 inches. Another memorable day of rain was 3 March 1997.
